Introducing Oconee County’s Next Administrator
The Oconee County Council has appointed Stewart Jones as our next County Administrator.
This decision reflects who we are as a county and how we believe local government should work.
Our citizens believe in limited government, fiscal responsibility, local control, and respect for our way of life. They elect representatives to set policy, and they expect county administration to carry that policy out faithfully and competently.
Stewart Jones understands local government not just from theory, but from experience. He has served at the county level in Laurens County. He knows firsthand what it means to be accountable to voters, to balance budgets, to make difficult decisions, and to answer directly to the people you serve.
In addition to his public service, Stewart has private sector business experience leading organizations and building companies, with a clear understanding of budgets, operations, and accountability.
He has also served at the state level as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, where he worked directly with counties across South Carolina. Stewart understands how state agencies, regulations, and funding decisions impact communities like ours. He knows how to push back when necessary, and how to advocate effectively for local interests.
That matters, because Oconee County is growing, and growth brings pressure. Pressure on infrastructure. Pressure on services. Pressure from outside interests that do not always share our values or respect local control.
Stewart Jones is prepared to get to work, and this Council is confident in his ability to lead county administration in a way that reflects the values of this community.
Stewart’s contract will begin January 5th.
Stewart, welcome to Oconee County. We look forward to working with you.

Good luck to Oconee County and to Stewart Jones.
